John Hopewell has been in the construction industry since 1994 with extensive Civil Engineering experience. Through his career he has been exposed to numerous civil engineering disciplines which includes plant road works, major concrete works incorporating precast concrete, pre- and post-stressed concrete, marine construction, pipeline and pump station construction, industrial civils, water reservoirs, high and low rise buildings and shopping centre construction.

In his most recent position as an in-house engineer for a large property development company he represented the shareholders’ interests in the commercial warehousing portfolio from conceptual design through in-house construction to the maintenance of the full portfolio of more than 80 warehouses and buildings.

A key role was to carry out the annual structural inspections of each of the buildings as is required by the Construction Regulations. This has led to a keen interest in inspections of structures to assess the structures and ensure they are built and assembled as designed but mostly to inspect that there are no obvious signs of deterioration or distress in the structure that may materialise over the course of time.
